Columbia Estuary Report - 2/16/98

Just a reminder: It's weird looking gull season. Plumages are getting ratty
and stuff is beginning to move around. I had what appeared to be a black
headed gull from a car moving at 50mph which I could not reproduce while
standing still and looking through a spotting scope. It was probably one
of the 200-300 MEW GULLS many of which are looking pretty dusky-headed
about now.

There are 5 TRUMPETER SWANS on Stringtown Rd (Pacific Co, WA) and 5
GREATER YELLOWLEGS on the Chinook River. There are also good numbers of
small-form CANADA GEESE on the Chinook Valley Rd.

And the Eagles are singing song of love.
