Subject: Vancouver RBA for Sunday, February 15, 1998

This is the Vancouver Bird Alert for Sunday February 15, Monday 7:30 am
update.

The featured birds for today's report are: TUFTED DUCK, GLAUCOUS GULL,
AMERICAN TREE SPARROW and HARRIS' SPARROW.

Sightings for Sunday, February 15:

A male TUFTED DUCK was seen at the north end of Lost Lagoon in Stanley
Park. Also in the in area was a female REDHEAD and a CACKLING GOOSE, a race
of the CANADA GOOSE. The HARRIS' SPARROW could still be found by the stone
bridge.

An AMERICAN TREE SPARROW was at Burnaby Lake. Also in Burnaby, a PILEATED
WOODPECKER was seen at the foot of East Lake.

A Ist year GLAUCOUS GULL was seen on Burn's Drive, at the intersection of
Highway 99 and Highway 10.

The 3 AMERICAN AVOCETS were still at their usual location beside the
railway trestle at the mouth of the Serpentine River in Surrey, along with
an immature NORTHERN SHRIKE.

Blackie Spit had 2 EURASIAN WIGEON and an immature PEREGRINE FALCON.

The WILLET was at the foot of the Tsawwassen Jetty and Beach Grove had 6
SHORT-EARED OWLS and a PEREGRINE FALCON.

In West Vancouver 60 Surfbirds were seen on Grebe Islet and an ANNA'S
HUMMINGBIRD was on Marine Drive close to Lighthouse Park.

3 WESTERN MEADOWLARKS were near the other pond at Iona Island.

Saturday, February 14:

The PRAIRIE FALCON was seen at the foot of 34th street in Delta.

200 BRANT were off Beach Grove in Tsawwassen along with a EURASIAN WIGEON.
Another 12 BRANT were off Point Roberts.

Friday, February 13:

2 REDHEADS were seen on the outer pond at Iona Island.

A LONG-EARED OWL and a GREAT-HORNED OWL were heard at night at the old Cora
Brown subdivision on Sea Island.

Thursday, February 12:

The CLARK'S GREBE was just southwest of the Agar and Inglis intersection on
Sea Island in Richmond.

Two REDHEADS were on the outer pond at Iona Island.

A PEREGRINE FALCON was flying around in South Surrey between 24th and 26th
Avenue and 148th and 152nd Street.
