I hate to say it, Sandy and Jerry, but if only you had got there one
day earlier . . .

My husband Steve and I made it to Turnbull by about 10:00am on
Saturday. The sun was out, the wind was blowing, and the next storm
was definitely coming in. This was our first trip to Turnbull, and
we stopped to pick up some pamphlets and a bird list on our way in.
Based on the bird list, we had a really good day at Turnbull.

Great Blue Heron 2
Trumpeter Swan 4 adult, 1 imm.
Mallards
Ring-necked Duck 5
Common Goldeneye 8
Barrow's Goldeneye 6 males, 2 females
Hooder Mergansers one pair
Red-tailed Hawk 2
Ring-necked Pheasant 1 male
Northern Flicker 3
Hairy Woodpecker 1 female
Pygmy Nuthatch 4 identified, many more likely
Red-breasted Nuthatch 3 (more heard)
Black-capped Chickadee 5
Black-billed Magpie 3
Robin 5
Dark-eyed Junco 7, plus more in the trees
Red-winged Blackbird 10, plus many more singing in the reeds
Red Crossbill 1
Pine Grosbeak 2
Northern Shrike 1

More later about the rest of my trip in Northern Idaho. Right now I
have to sort through the 85 messages you've sent since Friday
afternoon!!
