Arcata is beautiful country, and home to some incredible vagrants.
In just the last year that I was there, a Rustic Bunting spent the
winter a White-winged Tern was at the marsh, and a Philadelphia
Vireo spent a month in my backyard. The bird list for the for this
part of California is approaching 450 different species. Of course,
right now most of it is sliding into the ocean, but I sure do miss
the bird life.
