And this time I got a more critical look. I'm not sure if this bird was
the same as the bird I reported to you several weeks ago. That bird
seemed to have a much more extensive area of grey in the primaries and a
much smaller bill and different head shape.

Today's bird seemed to definitely be a Glaucous X Glaucous-winged hybrid.
The bird was about the same size as the other big gulls around, but had a
much different bill shape with far less of a gonys. The eye of this bird
appeared dark, but with my only optics being raindrop-covered glasses at
dusk, it was hard to tell. The primaries on this bird had three stripes
of grey across an all-white rest of the primary. When the bird flew, the
ends of the primaries were white with a paler grey on the inner webs.

All this bird did was answer some questions and bring up others. Gene
Hunn suggested I consider researching Kumlien's Iceland Gull for the first
bird I saw--I'm hoping it shows again.

There was a Ring-billed, a MEw or two, and a Western among the gulls
today, so a nice variety was had. RK
