Hello, this is Portland Audubon Society's Rare Bird Report. This
recording was made Thursday February 19. If you have anything to add call

Although still elusive, an adult SLATY-BACKED GULL has been at the Sauvie
Island Pellet Plant off and on all week. On February 16 two adult
SLATY-BACKEDS were there. The third winter plumaged SLATY-BACKED
continues to be seen at Westmoreland Park in southeast Portland.

The male TUFTED DUCK at Bingen, Washington, and the BLACK DUCK at Hood
River continue to be seen.

HEERMANN'S GULLS continue to increase along the coast. They are being
seen in estuaries and on city parks and golf courses, a departure for
these ordinarily ocean and beach birds.

A TURKEY VULTURE was near Cape Blanco February 12. Seven SHORT-TAILED
SHEARWATERS were off Port Orford February 15. Two RED PHALAROPES and two
BONAPARTE'S GULLS were at Bandon that day. Two ROCK SANDPIPERS were at
Depoe Bay last week-end. A RED-SHOULDERED HAWK was at Otis Junction and a
RED PHALAROPE was on Drift Creek Meadows at Siletz Bay February 15.

The RED-SHOULDERED HAWK continues to be seen near the Fred Meyer store in
Tillamook. A male OLDSQUAW and a male HARLEQUIN DUCK have been regularly
seen during the week on the Necanicum River near the Pizza Castle at the
north end of Seaside.

A flock of 50 SANDHILL CRANES passed northward over southwest Portland
February 15. So far there has been no noticable buildup on Sauvie Island.
There are now four BARROW'S GOLDENEYES on the small pond at Mt. Hood
Community College in Troutdale. A SAGE SPARROW was near the mouth of the
Sandy River east of Portland February 15. It has not been relocated.

A flock of 13 CHIPPING SPARROWS was northwest of Salem in Polk County
February 14. A group of 5 TULE WHITE-FRONTED GEESE and two CINNAMON TEAL
were at Baskett Slough NWR February 15. The RED-SHOUDLERED HAWK continues
to be seen along Farmer Road east of the refuge, but the GYRFALCON
reported along Livermore Road north of the refuge was last reported
February 9. Many HORNED LARKS and PIPITS were along Livermore Road last
week-end.

RED-SHOULDERED HAWKS continue to be seen at Ankeny NWR south of Salem. Up
to two TREE SPARROWS have been seen all week near Buena Vista Road and
the railroad tracks. Several TREE SWALLOWS were at the refuge February
17.

A TURKEY VULTURE was over Corvallis February 11. Two BRANT were among the
goose flocks at Finley NWR during the week. A TURKEY VULTURE was over
Glide, east of Roseburg February 15, and another was over Jacksonville in
the Rogue Valley the next day. TREE SWALLOWS and RUFOUS HUMMINGBIRDS are
also being seen in the Rogue Valley. A heavy movement of ROBINS occurred
February 14 both east and west of the Cascades.

It appears that the early spring migrants are now moving through Oregon.
