Bulk e-mailers usually forge their return address, and the use of fake
names at
large providers like AOL is typical. The instructions for the software they
purchase to bulk e-mail include information on how to disguise their address.

One of the more annoying side-effects of bulk e-mail to lists such as tweeters
is that it spawns a whole bunch of e-mail discussing the junk message. I got
the junk message twice, and while I've not been counting I know I've read far
more than two messages on tweeters discussing it :)

So, maybe we can give it a rest for now, and pin our hopes on the fact that
we've not been inundated with such spam and that Dan Victor can, for now
at least, refrain from reconfiguring the list to accept messages from
subscribers
only?
