This is the Lower Columbia Basin Audubon Society Bird Alert for February

On February 2, Dennis Rockwell reported that his wife Glenda had found 2
albinistic EURASIAN STARLINGS in a flock at Two Rivers Park in Finley.

Along the Audubon Nature Trail in Columbia Park on February 6, Mike and
MerryLynn Denny found 2 WHITE-THROATED SPARROWS, a GOLDEN-CROWNED SPARROW,
a HERMIT THRUSH and both kinglet species. Also on that day the Dennys saw
the RED-SHOULDERED HAWK at Twin Bridges and along Snively Road found MARSH
WRENS, 2 BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS in a flock of cedars, a VARIED THRUSH, a
COOPER'S HAWK, and a YELLOW-HEADED BLACKBIRD. Mike also mentioned that
there were 5 GLAUCOUS GULLS on the Walla Walla Delta.

On February 4, and again on the 7th, Craig Corder and Judy Stevens observed
about 150 SNOW GEESE and a GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE among thousands of
Canada Geese, 2 male CANVASBACKS, 3 AMERICAN TREE SPARROWS, 2 LINCOLN'S
SPARROWS, and about 50 SAVANNAH SPARROWS all along Whitcomb Island and an
EARED GREBE near the mouth of Glade Creek.

Also on February 7, Dana Ward and Ray Johnson found a HAIRY WOODPECKER at
the Vernita Reststop, whereas Bill and Nancy LaFramboise found a (the
same?) HAIRY WOODPECKER on the Grant county side of the Vernita Bridge.
Bill and Nancy also observed singing SAGE SPARROWS on the ALE reserve.

On February 9, Nancy LaFramboise found a LINCOLN'S SPARROW near the north
end of Logston Blvd in Richland and I (Bob Woodley) saw it there the
following day.

About 200 SNOW GEESE are still present on Whitcomb Island as seen by Ruth
Fischer, Nancy LaFramboise, and my wife Pat and I. At least 8 BALD EAGLES
were also present.

On February 11, Warren Hall and I again observed the RED-SHOULDERED HAWK at
Twin Bridges but I would suggest you look for this bird on the weekend to
avoid a road paving crew now working there.

Lastly, this morning (2/12) I found 1 SAGE SPARROW south of Jacobs Road,
9/10 of a mile west of its junction with Dallas Road.
