Columbia Estuary Report - 2/22/98

It's been a showery weekend.

I took a trip out to Brownsmead on Saturday to see what the weather had
blown up riverr. There were 35 BLACK-BELLIED PLOVER and several 1000
DUNLIN in the flooded fields among the usual numbers of NORTHERN PINTAIL
and GREEN-WINGED TEAL. An all black (except for the) ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK
was on Jackson Rd as was the regularly reported tundra-type PEREGRINE.
Another Peregrine was at Bug Hole. I saw only 8 BALD EAGLES, but the
weather did not inspire me to look very hard.

A ANNA'S HUMMINGBIRD was in my neighborhood yesterday afternoon, singing
gaily.

A single RED PHALAROPE was on the SJCR shorebird ponds this morning.
2 BLACK-LEGGED KITTIWAKES were on Youngs Bay and easily observed from the
Warrenton/Youngs Bay bridge.
