Herrero has been encouraged by many to write a second edition of Bear
Attacks, and has been at work on it --somewhat reluctantly, I gather.

He is giving an evening presentation at the convention of the International
Bear Management and Research Association in Tennessee in mid-April. Since I
am attending, I will perhaps be able to bring back interesting news about
pepper spray and B.C's killer black bears -- the two big developments of
recent years.

Herrero is most responsible for the current rule: Play dead for brown bears
and fight back with black bears. I've heard that he has done some
rewording of the formula.
