Three HARRIS'S SPARROWS and 1 WHITE-THROATED SPARROW
were at Madame Doriane (sp?) Park in western Walla Walla Co., WA,
today, February 20 according to Mike and MerryLynn Denny. The park
is just north of the junction of US 12 and US 730, at about US 12
milepost 307. Both species have been seen with consistency all
winter the Harris's numbers fluctuating from 1-6. Look for the
sparrows along the little dirt road, which is just beyond the bathrooms,
and runs west along the Walla Walla River. Just across the road at the
Walla Walla River delta, the Denny's report huge numbers of American
Wigeon, Northern Pintail, and Green-winged Teal, with a few Bald
Eagles too. Just north of the park along US 12, at the last big pond on
the east side of the highway before you get to McNary NWR, the
Denny's saw a Common Loon, very unusual for this time of year in
Walla Walla County. WA DeLorme 40, D-1.

TRUMPETER SWANS were reported from two WA locales. Four adults
and 1 immature were at Turnbull NWR, south of Cheney, Spokane Co.,
WA on Saturday, February 14, according to Jane Westervelt. The
refuge is about 4 or 5 miles south of Cheney along the Cheney Plaza
Road. WA DeLorme 72, A-4.

Six more TRUMPETERS were on the Okanogan River 3 miles north of
the river mouth at the Columbia River last weekend, according to Andy
Stepniewski. Look for the birds in the river north of Brewster,
Okanogan Co., WA. WA DeLorme 100, D-3.

Andy also reports five immature SNOWY OWLS east of Moses Lake,
Grant Co., WA last weekend. The birds were east of Moses Lake,
north of the interstate along L NE. Looking at the reports for the last
couple of weeks, it would probably be prudent to check L SE south of
the interstate as well. WA DeLorme 69, CD-7.

Two BLUE JAYS were in Whitebird, Idaho Co., ID for most of January,
according to Tony Carlson. Two more BLUE JAYS were seen today in
Walla Walla, Walla Walla Co., WA. The Walla Walla birds were near
the intersection of Abbot (sp?) and Scarpelly (sp?) across from the
north side of the Walla Walla High School in southern Walla Walla.
Mike and MerryLynn Denny saw the birds today and found out the
birds have been present all winter. Also in the area was a HERMIT
THRUSH. Whitebird, ID is on ID DeLorme 54, bottom right on the
crease. Walla Walla is on WA DeLorme 41, D-6.

Good birding.
