How is it that one can justify killing a wild creature (or even a beloved pet)
to protect thier chickens. Back in the day when a person's chickens were
thier life might be justified if precautions were taken. But these days
nobodys life really depends on a few chickens. Its an asthetic thing. People
just want to pretend thier country folk or have some sense of homesteading. I
lived on a ranch as a kid and my folks were always trying to kill the bobcats,
foxes, and weasels in the name of thier chickens. Forget the fact that we had
20x more eggs than we could ever want to eat and we still bought chicken from
the store. My earliest memories of my Grandpaw were him shooting any raptor
that flew over the yard claiming it was a "chicken hawk". If anybody ever
shot my dog (member of my family) for killing one of thier $5-$10 chickens,
which I would happily replace thrice the amount, why I'd at #$## at #$$!!!!that
mother at #$ at $ . Im not saying dogs or cats should be aloud to roam and cause
trouble. Killing most spp. of wildlife to protect chickens or ducks is wrong.
Dont even get me started on the ADC killing massive amounts of wildlife for
the sake of rancher's cows at tax payers expense. Not to mention the cows are
on federal land leased to the rancher at WAY below market vaule and cause
absurd amounts of damage to the ecosystems they graze in..
