Not every one of us birders on line is a flatlander. Some people
in this state and region are still "country folk" and damn glad of it.
And is it not a little species biased to refer to your domesticated
carnivores as "beloved pets", some people do keep waterfowl and poultry
as pets also, and do care for them as more than a possible meal. The
person who shot the otters was deeply saddened by their death. He reacted
the same way you would have if an unidentified creature was tearing apart
your "little Muffy" in the dark of night, he protected "his" beloved
pets.
