This is the Vancouver Bird Alert for Tuesday, February 24, Wednesday 8:30
am update.

The featured birds for today's report are SNOWY OWL and CLARK'S GREBE.

Sightings for Tuesday, February 24:

A SNOWY OWL was hunting briefly on Terra Nova East on Lulu Island, at the
end of River Road.

The CLARK'S GREBE was again seen on the middle arm of the Fraser, west of
the Coast Guard station.

A BONEPARTE'S GULL was seen just before Horseshoe Bay, from the Gibsons'
Ferry.

The female REDHEAD was on the east end of Lost Lagoon in Stanley Park.

In Delta over 200 TRUMPETER SWANS were seen on the turf farm at 72nd
Street.

SHORT-EARED OWLS were seen from a number of locations: 3 at the end of 72nd
Street in Delta; 1 at 41B and Delta Port Way; and 1 at Brunswick Point.

Reifel had 1 NORTHERN SAW-WHET OWL and 4 BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT HERONS.

Monday, February 23:

The YELLOW-BILLED LOON continues to be seen off Sullivan Street at Crescent
Beach in White Rock. Also in the area was a ROCK SANDPIPER in a flock of
SANDERLING.

13 BRANT and 12 EURASIAN WIGEON were seen at the base of the Tsawwassen
jetty, as well as the WILLET and 3 BLACK OYSTERCATCHERS.

Out of town in Duncan on Vancouver Island, the third winter SLATY-BACKED
GULL could still be seen at Phibbs Road and Bench Road opposite Whipple
Tree Junction. Also seen here were a first winter ICELAND GULL and a first
winter GLAUCOUS GULL. For further updates please call the Victoria Rare

Sunday February 22:

The male TUFTED DUCK was seen at it's usual location by the stone bridge in
Stanley Park as well as the HARRIS' SPARROW. The female REDHEAD was at the
east end of the lagoon.

A COMMON TEAL, the EURASIAN race of the GREEN-WINGED TEAL was seen in a
pond near the works yard behind the sewage plant at Iona Island.

Nearby on Sea Island a TURKEY VULTURE was seen above the Agar and Inglis
area, near gate 77. Also on Sea Island on the north east side of Cora
Brown, there were 2 BARN OWLS and 1 NORTHERN SAW-WHET OWL. An
ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER was also in the area.

The DIPPER could still be found on Blake Drive in Delta. To access this
area go to 72nd off Highway 91 and turn left or north on Blake Drive and
follow it for two blocks to where the road is closed. Park there and walk
about 50 meters upstream.

A PEREGRINE FALCON was seen at the Kits beach area, flying inland west to
east.

In a late report for Saturday, a MOUNTAIN CHICKADEE was seen at the north
end of Pitt Lake.
