I'm passing along a question that I was asked and had no answer for. The
knowledge on this list never ceases to amaze me!

This person had observed that kingfishers vocalize while they're flying
over the water, presumably hunting. They were wondering if their chattering
call had some effect on the fish, perhaps making them easier to catch.
Getting their attention? Causing them to come closer to the surface, or ???

Has anyone looked into this? Any thoughts? Thanks in advance for any input.

Kingfishers cause a ruckus for no reason whatsoever most of the time. I would
have a hard time believing that it is associated with hunting, but yes, they
often vocalize while flying.
