Jane,

I have provided what little I know.

You have to take a ferry to get to Gibsons ($22.75 vehicle and $7.75 per
adult 12 and over) out of Horseshoe Bay which is NW of downtown Vancouver.
The schedlue is: First sailing at 7:20 AM and approximately every two hours
afterward; return on the half hour. It takes about 45 minutes and is a
beautiful ride.
Interstate 5 becomes Hwy 99 at the border. Stay on Hwy 99 go through
Vancouver until you come to Stanley Park; cross the bridge and follow
Capilano
to Hwy 1. You can bypass town on Hwy 1 (I am not sure how to get there),
which leads to Horseshoe Bay. Stanley Park has had male and female Tufted
Ducks and a Male Common Eider (Alaska Race) recently.

From the ferry either straight or left will get you to town. You will
take Glowers (sp?) Point Road to the west for a couple of miles. It will
bring you along the water for a way. After you pass through the park
(beachfront); 2nd Ave will be a right turn up a hill. The driveway has a
sawhorse at the end with a sign (XANTUS) go up the driveway to the fence
which has another sign. There are three feedrs in the yard. The Xantus
roosts in a lilac bush against the far fence and slightly left as you are
facing the yard. Be patient cause on a nice day the Xantus tend to roam
the area, but when she is around makes a loud metallic "tic". Good luck.
