Tweeters,

Saw two unusual birds in downtown Bellevue, yesterday, January 1.

First bird was a SCRUB JAY. This bird was at the corner 108th NE and NE
10th, near the Bellevue Regional Library at about 14:00, between
torrential rain showers. I stopped to drop some books off and heard the
bird calling. He was in some trees on the edge of the playfield
directly to the west of the library. He stayed there for 4-5 minutes
(long enough for me to get within 15 feet) before heading north to the
small park just on the other side of the street.

At Tower Records (NE 8th between 106th and 108th NE) there is a colony
of House Sparrows. They spend most of their time in the small clump of
greenery right below the book store/ above the underground parking.
Accompanying this flock yesterday were two white-crowned sparrows and a
WHITE THROATED SPARROW, all feeding on part of a muffin someone put on
the sidewalk for them. The white crowned and white throated sparrows
were much "spookier" than the house sparrows, snatching up bits of
muffin and taking them into the shrubbery to eat. But with some
patience I was able to observe the birds from less than 5 feet away,
using my car as a blind.

What nice surprises these birds were!
