Drives me nuts if it's a *looong* multiscreen quote with a one- or two-line
reply. Deleting whatever is non-germane to your reply is not mandatory, but
is a simple courtesy: a few minutes spent editing for concision is the only
cost.

These two guidelines seem quite reasonable.

I'd perhaps not write that in stone because--as in the above instance--there
may be a supplementary or complementary statement of views made more
supportable or complete with quotes from two or even more posts in combination.
