Dear Tweeters:
Our first bird for 1998 in the town of Friday Harbor, San Juan Island =
was a Great Horned Owl perched at the very top of a sailboat mast next =
to the Downrigger restaurant. We had wandered down to the marina at =
about 1:00 AM New Year's morning (celebrating in town) and heard the owl =
screeching. Moments later we spotted a second Great Horned Owl on an =
adjacent mast, also screeching. After a few characteristic hoot calls =
they both flew off toward Pear Point. Neat first bird!
