Tweets,

If I hadn't seen the adult bald eagle dive to the water's surface, I
would have been startled when it appeared in my spotting scope.
I was scanning the surface of Hicks Lake (near Olympia, Wash.) this
morning, counting waterfowl. A man standing nearby spotted the
eagle and caused me to look up and see it dive. If he hadn't been
there I probably would have continued panning my scope along the water
until the eagle came into view, sitting on the water's surface like
a once-orphaned eagle raised by Canada Geese, content to glide over
glassy lake surfaces and graze on well-fertilized lawns. This bird sat
there afloat for about 20 seconds before rising from the water to
go to a tree and eat the smallish-looking fish it had caught.
