Tweeters,
Today Margi Palmer and I drove to Gibsons B.C. and watched the Xantus
Hummingbird flit around in his chosen territory. Today his yard was
covered with a dusting of snow. In fact his head had flakes of snow on
it but he looked healthy and happy as he hunted for insects among the
evergreens. He's a really nice little bird to watch with a typical
sassy hummingbird attitude.
A local birder also took us to Stanley Park to look for the Common
Eider but we were unable to locate it. We could have used Michael
Price's posting a day earlier. Hopefully we can return and locate the
bird at another time. We were able to find a Harris' Sparrow and an
albinistic Fox Sparrow at the feeders in the park and Black Turnstones
and a Rock Sandpiper on the rocky shore. There's lots to look at around
this park.
