Sightings for Sunday, January 4

The XANTHUS' HUMMINGBIRD continues to be seen in Gibsons at 221 2nd street.
Directions to this location will be included each week on Thursday's
update. Fourteen LEAST SANDPIPERS were at Blackie Spit and a ROCK
SANDPIPER and YELLOW-BILLED LOON were at Crescent Beach. A HUTTON'S VIREO
was at Reifel. The immature HARRIS' SPARROW was seen again today at the
Stone Bridge in Stanley Park. An immature WESTERN TANAGER was seen for the
eighteenth consecutive day in a yard in N Burnaby. For details, please

Rarities in Washington State include a GREEN-TAILED TOWHEE, BLACK PHOEBE
and a SLATY-BACKED GULL. For more information, please contact the

Sightings for Saturday January 3

Provisional total for the White Rock CBC was 128 species. Highlights
include REDHEAD, NORTHERN GOSHAWK, HARRIS' SPARROW, LAPLAND LONGSPUR, LEAST
SANDPIPER, GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE and GLAUCOUS GULL.

A NORTHERN GOSHAWK was seen in aerial combat with a PEREGRINE FALCON over
Serpentine Fen. A HARRIS' SPARROW was near the red barn at Dunsmuir Gardens
behind Blackie Spit. A second HARRIS' SPARROW was towards the end of 40th
Ave, on the south side in a huge flock of sparrows near 3 silos. A
LONG-BILLED CURLEW and a LEAST SANDPIPER were at Blackie Spit. 2 GREATER
WHITE-FRONTED GEESE were at Rees Lake, which is towards the eastern end of
the Sunrise lakes in Langley west of 208th street between 28th and 32nd
Ave. Several Red-breasted Sapsuckers were seen, including one at
Brookswood Park.

Four over-wintering AMERICAN AVOCETS were at the mouth of the Serpentine
River. A ROCK SANDPIPER and 2 BLACK OYSTERCATCHERS were between 2nd and
3rd beach in Stanley Park. An immature WESTERN TANAGER continues to come
to a feeder in N Burnaby.

Sightings for Friday, January 2

A PALM WARBLER was again located towards the eastern end of Iona Island in
a field of broom. The bird often associates with Kinglets and may be
difficult to locate. Twenty-four LINCOLN'S SPARROWS and a number of
raptors were seen from No. 4 road in Richmond, about half a kilometer south
of the Steveston Highway. The WILLET was still at the base of the
Tsawwassen Jetty.
