As well, there's Barn Swallows in southern California. Could this be El Nino
(some Brits are calling it 'Ellie')-related? Could we be looking at a
January arrival here? '-) What obstacle or incentive could be preventing
them from heading further south? I thought they were hardwired to get to a
South American wintering and stay there until time to return. What gives?
Are birds merely slaves to their instinctual programming or do they have
some volition in where to spend the winter?

As well as seeing which species Ellie sends up from the south, it may be
interesting to see what effect it has on northbound migrant arrival dates.
We may see some extraordinarily early birds this winter and spring.

(Who will be the first to reach the once-impossible 600+ plateau?) '-)
