Yesterday I was watching the feeding frenzy of Robins and Cedar Wax Wings in
the backyard holly tree when I noticed a woodpecker working over the
multiple trunks. I thought it was the Downy who is a regular visitor; but
it appeared too large. The sky was very overcast and the bird was working
in the shadows so it took quite a while to realize that it had a red head.
After consulting my ID books I'm concluding this bird was a Red Breasted
Sapsucker (red head and chest, essentially black wings and back with white
stripes on wings and some white down the middle of the back).

I examined the trunks of the Holly and found that this bird has been working
them over pretty thoroughly.

2 questions: Does Red Breasted Sapsucker seem like a logical ID this time
of year?
Could there be any long term damage to the Holly?
