Ah, I know it well. My first bird of the New Year, (assuming I'm not allowed
to include our pet Java Rice Finches. ;-), was 'our' red-shafted flicker,
Lucy, who came by and for the very first time actually knocked on our
living room window to let us know the screen feeder was *criminally* empty
of peanuts for her to eat.

Sheesh, she's getting just as demanding as Bert, the Stellar's Jay...I
guess, considering we've given her a lovely feeding place in the middle of
Gwenhwyvar's (Cooper's hawk, actually landed on the rail of our balcony after
yet another failed attempt at Lucy...) hunting grounds, she has right to be
a bit demanding, 'specially since she's just so darn pretty!
