My wife and I made a trip to Idaho Falls to visit my relatives this
weekend, and we managed to get 4 new lifers to add while there.
First we stopped near Boise on the way out at the Snake River Birds of Prey
conserve. There was a huge flock of Chukars there off the edge of the
parking lot as we got out (yeah, I know, not a real big deal.) We went
through their tour, and both got to see a Peregrine falcon up close and
personal. We'd both seen them before though. When the power went out, they
entertained us all with another unreleasable bird, a short-eared owl. Neither
of us had seen one of these, but we don't count captive birds. It was a
beautiful bird nonetheless. We got back on the road, and saw nothing new
until the trip back. Shortly after hitting the road, we watched an immature
Rough-Legged hawk fly over. Near Twin Falls we got to watch a Golden Eagle
for a few minutes flying around as well. We also had a Merlin buzz the car as
well. Finally, near Boise, we found a Ring-Necked Patridge as roadkill.
There were lots of bald Eagles to be seen in the Springlike weather (for
Idaho)
All in all a beautiful weekend.
Now, this weekend Rose and I want to head up to Vancouver and see the
Xantu('s/s'/s/whatever) hummer. I figured I'd see if anyone was interested
in making the trip up this weekend as well.
