Hi Chatters,

It's a very happy new year here in SoCal! A kingbird seen on and off for the
last few days has finally been identified as a Couch's Kingbird (Tyrannus
couchii). I've been told that this is the first record in the US west of
Texas.

The bird is in Craig Regional Park in Fullerton, CA in northern Orange Co.
Craig Regional Park is just west of the 57 Freeway in Fullerton. Take the
Imperial Hwy. exit west, then turn left at the first main intersection,
following the signs to the park. There is an entrance fee ($4.00, at least
on weekends). Once inside the park, wind down the hill and park in the first
parking lot. The bird has been seen in this general area, but ranges widely,
including the housing development south of the park.

Good birding,
