Yeah, it was John gave a pretty unmistakable description for
the sapsucker and the mark it leaves on trees.

I am no tree expert either though I have so many live trees with
thousands of sapsucker holes in them that I have to believe that
most trees can sustain themselves despite the drilling.
Does it shorten the tree's life or make it more susceptible to disease?

Seems possible.
