Sunday, January 4, 8:24 PM - Hi, Jason Starfire (206) 546-7069. Today,
following the Skagit Bay CBC myself and Rebecca Crossen(?) birded the Skagit
Game Range. A Conservation Permit is now required to bird the area and if you
do not have it a ticket is possible. The GREEN-TAILED TOWHEE was present at
about 20 yards before the island of Spirea at about 3 o:clock and also in the
area were 2 TREE SPARROWS and one WHITE-THROATED SPARROW. Good luck and good
birding!

Monday, January 5, 5:36 PM - Hi, this is Greg Toffic, today I birded at
the Skagit Flats and the very large concentration of shorebirds is still at
the intersection of Farm to Market Road and Sunset. They were very nervous
because of the presence of falcons in the area. There are thousands of DUNLINS
- very difficult to really get a good number because of their nervousness -
constantly flushing. Also a few WESTERN SANDPIPERS and very small numbers of
BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS but amongst that group of BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS was one
PACIFIC GOLDEN-PLOVER. Vey possibly the same bird that stayed late last year.
Good birding!

Monday, January 5, 10:09PM - Dave Swayne, (206) 932-6603 with a belated
report from the Kitsap Christmas Count on January 3rd. Jan Bragg and I found a
ROSS' GOOSE asssociating with a large group of light domestic geese at a small
pond just west of Keyport, WA - about a half mile west. That's DeLorme page
78, C3. The pond is on Virginia Loop Road about a quarter of a mile north of
highway 308. If the bird can't be seen from there, then go north a few hundred
yards and take the road to the east and go to the back side of the property.
Apparently the bird has been hanging around since early fall and is quite tame
and very well fed.

[that's it until late afternoon January 7 when I called in the information
that I put on Tweeters yesterday about the CLAY-COLORED SPARROW. The next
transcription will start with that message. BN]
