Dunlin and Western Sandpiper caused me problems when I was introduced to PNW
shorebirds--and they still do, at times. Although Dunlin are considerably
larger, it's
not always easy to gauge size, especially in single-species flocks. A Dunlin's
bill is much longer, though, and droops at the end; that's where I always look
first.
