I lived in Florida and my grandmother had hummingbird feeders on both sides of
the cabin. Constant supply of food for two resident families of Rubythroat
Hummingbirds.
She also had two seed feeders out in "yard". (5 acres of land) Attracted to
the feeders was anything from your "Bobwhites", families of em', Blue Jays
(such as the one we're chasing around Seattle currently) Red Cardinals,
Bohemian Waxwings and Bushtits.(also around, but not as frequent were Titmice,
Brown Thrashers (name says it all for their activity in the brush, would
always scare me)
There is many more but, I can't think of them all. The other wonderful thing
was at night the world would come to life with "Lightning bugs", whipporwills
and screech owls. In the early morning I would take walks along the fields
and call out to the "Bobwhite". The thrill would be getting two to three to
answer. It's beautiful to hear in the early quiet morning. My favorite was
the Pileated Woodpecker. My grandmother challenged me (gently) and informed
me that there was the "Great Ivory Billed Woodpecker" but no one has seen it
in these parts for years. It was at that point that every time I heard that
great "Knock" I would go through the woods searching for the Ivory Billed
Woodpecker. I am still searching and so I have the name. My grandmother is
no longer around, may she be in peace. But her patience, love of the wildlife
and love of all creatures I am still trying to learn how to live by.

hardly experienced at birding, but love it anyways
