Sightings for Friday, January 9

The XANTHUS HUMMINGBIRD was seen again today in Gibsons at 221 2nd St. I
missed one of the turns in the directions included in yesterday's update.
My apologies if I sent you wandering in Gibsons. Complete directions are
as follows:

To reach this location, take the Langdale ferry from Horseshoe Bay. At
Langdale follow highway 101 south to Gibsons and drive through the town.
Turn left on Pratt, which is the first intersection after passing a Tim
Horton's and Wendys. Drive to the end of Pratt, turn right on Gower Point
Road then turn right on 2nd St and drive up the hill. The house is second
on the left and has a sawhorse at the end of the drive. Birders may walk
up the drive and view the hummingbird over a white picket fence. If you
see the bird, please give us a call.

The COMMON EIDER and an OLDSQUAW were in a large flock of scoters just
south of the Park Board office in Stanley Park. Two PEREGRINE FALCONS were
perched on top of office towers in downtown Vancouver and a PEREGRINE was
also seen taking a Rock Dove near the Second Narrows Bridge.

Second beach in Stanley Park had 3 BLACK OYSTERCATCHERS, a ROCK SANDPIPER
and 10 BLACK TURNSTONES. A gray phase GYRFALCON was at the mouth of the
Serpentine River.

A YELLOW-BILLED LOON, ROCK SANDPIPER, WESTERN SANDPIPER and BLACK TURNSTONE
were at the foot of Sullivan St. in Crescent Beach and Blackie Spit had a
LEAST SANDPIPER.

Sightings for Thursday, January 8

The COMMON EIDER was seen again today in a large flock of scoters at the
mouth of False Creek. Four AMERICAN AVOCETS are still at the mouth of the
Serpentine River and a COMMON YELLOWTHROAT was about 200 m up the dike from
the mouth of the river.

The RUSTY BLACKBIRD was located again today in The Cora Brown subdivision
on Sea Island and the PALM WARBLER was at the eastern end of Iona Island.
A CLARK'S GREBE was seen near the Dinsmore Bridge and the WESTERN TANAGER
was again at a feeder in north Burnaby.

In late reports from Wednesday, the YELLOW-BILLED LOON was 400 m west of
Sullivan St in Crescent Beach, the LONG-BILLED CURLEW was at Blackie Spit
and a PEREGRINE FALCON and 5 TRUMPETER SWANS were at the west end of
Ferguson road on Sea Island. Two Crested Mynahs were at 73rd and Hudson in
Vancouver.

Sightings for Wednesday, January 7

A RUSTY BLACKBIRD was seen in the Cora Brown subdivision on Sea Island this
morning. The bird was located along the old road towards the tank farm.
Two ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLERS were also at this location and a Harlan's race
RED-TAILED HAWK was at MacDonald Beach.

In out-of-town sightings, a female BRAMBLING was seen west of Port Alberni
on Sunday and a CATTLE EGRET is in Victoria. For details, call the
Victoria RBA at 250-592-3381.

The WESTERN TANAGER was reported again from North Burnaby. Call 298-5490
for details. Up to 9 SHORT-EARED OWLS were seen along Boundary Bay between
64th and Boundary Bay airport. A PEREGRINE FALCON was hunting shorebirds
in the lights of the greenhouses at the foot of 64th.
