Here is a (non-passive) call for bird records from the Vancouver BC chklst
area (USA border north to about Lions Bay, but including Point Roberts,
west to somewhere in the Strait of Georgia and up the Fraser Valley to
Abbotsford).

I am interested in any bird records from 1996/97 that include
date, number of individuals, species and location. Added details, such as
breeding, unusual behaviour or feeding is also appreciated. All sightings
will be imputted into a computer database and used for the compilation of
"Vancouver Birds in 1996/97", published by the VNHS, hopefully to be out
by December 98. All observers will be acknowledged both in the front of
the book, and after any sighting that occurs in the text. All sightings
are subject to acceptance by the Vancouver Birds Records Committee.

I hope to someday be able to put these records into a computer website, so
that contributors can see the records electronically, and they are
available to the general public. Obviously, this vision has many bugs to
be worked out, but I have talked to Marion Porter, and others at BC Field
Ornithologists, so that this will be organized at a provincial (not
regional) level, and hence hopefully reduce political problems. If we
ever get to the point where people can use these records for other
publications or research, the major stipulation for the usage of any of
these records would be that it is with the permission of the contributors.

Anyhow, for the moment the data will only be used for "Vancouver Birds
in 1996/97"; any other usage will require contributors' consent.

Thanks in advance,

Kyle Elliott
