We had six birders for our monthly trip to Spencer Is. on a cool, windy, but
rain and snow free day. We had 39 species at Spencer Is. and walk from
parking lot to the island. There were a large number of waterfowl as usual.
Some of the interesting sightings were:
1 Eurasian Wigeon
3 Bald Eagles
2 Hooded and 2 Common Mergansers
4 Northern Harriers
7 Red-tailed Hawks (1 was dark enough to be a Harlan's)
10-15 Long-billed Dowitchers
2 Common Snipe flying high overhead
2 Belted Kingfisher - both males
1 Hairy Woodpecker
1 Common Raven
1 Ruby-crowned Kinglet

After Spencer Is., four of us went to check out Tulalip Bay, about 15 min.
away. We picked eight additional species there.
5 Pacific Loon
6 Double-crested Cormorant
1 Western Grebe
30-40 Brant
10 Canvasback
10-15 Barrow's Goldeneye
4 Surf Scoter
2 Varied Thrush

It turned out to be a better day than expected after having snow the day
before.
