Hello, this is Portland Audubon Society's Rare Bird Report. This
recording was made Thursday January 15. If you have anything to add call
Harry Nehls at 233-3976.

The Hood River BLACK DUCK, the Sauvie Island SLATY-BACKED GULLS, and the
southeast Portland COSTA'S HUMMINGBIRD were all seen January 10. The snow
and ice storm in these areas since then have restricted birding and most
likely no one has checked to see if they are still around.

Four LONG-BILLED CURLEWS, a WILLET, a BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON, and a
couple of thousand DUNLIN were at Pony Slough on Coos Bay January 11. A
GLAUCOUS GULL is now being regularly seen in Florence.

An immature RED-SHOULDERED HAWK was over Newport January 7. A GOLDEN
EAGLE was on the Bayocean Spit at Tillamook Bay January 10. A GOSHAWK was
in an Astoria neighborhood January 11.

On January 10, a RED-SHOULDERED HAWK was in Ridgefield NWR. A RED-NECKED
GREBE, a GREEN HERON, and over 100 WESTERN GREBES were at nearby
Vancouver Lake. The 400 SANDHILL CRANES along Old Lower River Road, north
of Vancouver, are still being seen.

A RED-NECKED GREBE was on Fern Ridge Reservoir, west of Eugene, January
11. Nearby two WHITE PELICANS were on Kirk Pond near the Fern Ridge dam,
and a CATTLE EGRET was in Alvadore, north of Fern Ridge. A PRAIRIE FALCON
was south of Fern Ridge that day.

A LOGGERHEAD SHRIKE was near Lower Table Rock in the Rogue Valley January
8.

Large flocks of PINE SISKINS and a LESSER GOLDFINCH were in Bend, and a
SWAMP SPARROW was at Hatfield Lake east of Bend January 9. A RED-BREASTED
SAPSUCKER was near Fossil January 11. An EURASIAN WIGEON was observed
January 9 near Wingville in Baker County.

An OFO field trip to northeast Oregon last week-end located a BLUE JAY
near the Enterprise Fish Hatchery, 500 BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS in Joseph, 20
GRAY PARTRIDGE, and 10 TREE SPARROWS.

Despite the snow and ice a HARRIS'S SPARROW was visiting a feeder in Hood
River January 12. Another is visiting a feeder in Aurora, and the
HARRIS'S SPARROW at Minto-Brown Park in Salem is still being seen.
