Thanks to Carl and Harry for posting this. I had to stumble into the
office as I forgot some textbooks and will elaborate a little.
The bird was a first-year Emperor hanging out with Canadas. It
still had a lot of dark greyish mottling on the back of the head. We all
got really good looks at it flying with the Canadas and close views on the
ground.
The trip from PAS had 57 species, including 2 (!!) White-throated
Sparrows and 1 GREY-HEADED Fox Sparrow at Vancouver Lake Park, 3 Snow
Geese in a flock of Canadas SW of
the park, 2 Red-necked Grebes on Vancouver Lake. Western Grebes have gone
from 60+ on Wednesday (after the storm) to about 8 today. Sandhill Crane
numbers are still good, we probably had 500 of these and 1000 swans.
On the way home, I stopped at the Monk parakeet spot (7111 NE
ALderwood--Port of Portland Airport Maintenance Buidling). 12 birds were
visible.
Thanks to all who came on the trip (which didn't have rain until
1130!!!)
