I hadn't thought about whether those ten geese were adults or juveniles
until someone asked the question, but as I remember it, there were both.
It was on the coldest day and at dusk last weekend, and a few of them had
their "heads under (over?) their wings, poor things."

I had to consult a book about head posture during roosting/sleeping.
Virtually all sleeping birds (roosters??) "usually sleep with the head and
neck on the back and the bill buried in the shoulder feathers, or
scapulars, not with the head under the wing." That's from "The Audubon
Society Encyclopedia of North American Birds" by John K. Terres.

I guess it is only robins with a poetic license that are allowed a wider
range of options.
