As I was driving home yesterday along West Lake Sammamish Parkway I
spotted a bird that made me turn the car around and "check out". As
soon as I spotted the bird I though "shrike" - the size, posture, and
conspicuous roost were all right. Sure enough, I pulled into the
parking lot and got out the binoc's - NORTHERN SHRIKE, a view so good
and so easy I could even see a light portion of the lower bill as
described in the field guides. He sat there for the 10 minutes I had to
observe him.

The bird was located right at Vasa Park, on West Lake Sammamish Parkway.
He was perched on the end of a limb, right near the top of a short
poplar tree (the wind was blowing pretty hard and he was just bouncing
up and down with the limb). The trees are on the West side of the road,
just North of the parking lot for Vasa.

A good end to an otherwise uneventful birding weekend.
