January 15, 7:50 AM. Hello, this is Wayne Weaver phoning from Delta, BC.
My phone number is (604) 597-7201. Just to update a couple of unusual bird
sightings from southwestern BC. On January 14th, Wednesday the 14th, the
YELLOW-THROATED WARBLER which has been present since about January 7th was
still present at 1773 El Verano on Gabriola Island near Nanaimo. This is
easily accessible by ferry from Nanaimo, BC. It was seen by at least 6 or 7
observers and is coming to the feeder quilte frequently although most often
during the mornings. Also, the previous day, on January 13th, the breeding
plumaged COMMON EIDER which has been present in the Vancouver area for more
than a year now, was seen by me near Beach Avenue and Cordero Street in
sowntown Vancouver just south of the west entrance to Stanley Park. It's been
there for several weeks. And the XANTU'S HUMMINGBIRD was still coming
regularly to the feeder in Gibsons, BC where it's been since mid-November. For
updates on any of these birds please phone the Vancouver Rare Bird Alert at
(604) 737-3074. That's it for now. Bye Bye.

January 16, 7:57 AM. Hello, this is Richard Rowlett (425) 865-0276.
Following up on a couple of leads yesterday, January 15th, the little flock of
10 GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GEESE reported on TWEETERS by Thomas Weir were easily
found all clustered together at Coulor Park, Renton at 10:30 AM. The easiest
access is from I-405, Exit number 5 west to the southeast corner of Lake
Washington just beyond the northeast corner of Boeing. Your map may call the
park Lake Washington Park but the park is obvious and clearly signposted
Coulor Park. These birds can be viewed at very close quarters at 20 feet and
were completely oblivious to my presence and would make for an excellent photo
opportunity. Look for them around the beach area or the small islet at the
base of the footbridge. These birds have apparently been here for at least
the last 10 days to two weeks. In southwest Seattle in Arbor Heights the
previously mentioned two WESTERN SCRUB-JAYS were found pronto at the
intersecton of 35th Avenue Southwest and Southwest 105th. Someone here is
feeding the PIGEONS, HOUSE SPARROWS and STARLINGS in the front yard to which
the JAYS come and go. Otherwise they are likely to be found within a one or
two block radius of this intersection. Watch for them on overhead wires,
fences, trees, shrubs and rooftops and listen for their loud and distinctive
scold notes. Thanks and good birding.

January 16, 8:09 AM. Hello, this is Wayne Weaver phoning from Delta, BC.
My phone number is (604) 597-7201. I have a couple of updates on some rarities
from southwestern BC. The YELLOW-THROATED WARBLER which has been present since
January 5th on Galiano Island at 1773 El Verano was still present on January
15th. I saw it on the14th. It has been seen every day except one. Also, a
couple of other rare birds, the XANTU'S HUMMINGBIRD which has been in Gibsons,
BC just northwest of Vancouver since late November and the breeding plumage
COMMON EIDER which is in downtown Vancouver just south of the entrance to
Stanley Park along H Avenue were both there at least as recently as January
13th. For further updates on these and other unusual birds in the Vancouver
area please phone the Vancouver Rare Bird Alert at (604) 737-3074. That's it
for now.

January 16, 8:14 AM. Hello, this it's Wayne Weaver again with a quick
correction. The YELLOW-THROATED WARBLER is on Gabriola Island not Galiano
Island. Gabriola Island is very close to Nanaimo, BC and is easily accessed by
a shuttle ferry. Sorry about that. Bye Bye.

January 16, 4:19 PM. Hello, this is Mike Weil of Redmond 868-4679. Birding
this afternoon with Michael Mann on the Snoqualmie Valley area near the
intersection of Carnation Farm Road and West Snoqualmie Valley Road, we had a
NORTHERN SHRIKE in the fields. In the multitudes of WIGEON we had two EURASIAN
WIGEONS and also one ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK in the area. Good birding.

January 16, 6:21 PM. Hi, Jason Starfire (206) 546-7069. Today I birded
Kirby (?sp.) Park [? Richmond Highlands County Park on my AAA Seattle map] in
North Seattle from 12:30 to 3 o'clock. Highlights of the day were a single
TOWNSEND'S SOLITAIRE and HERMIT THRUSH. The calling SOLITAIRE was near the
lower parking lot at Shoreline Community College down a little road that's
next to a big dirt pile up. The SOLITAIRE and the HERMIT THRUSH were loosely
associating and in Kirby Park itself, the Shoreline side I located a single
ANNA'S HUMMINGBIRD and one LINCOLN'S SPARROW. Good luck and good birding.

January 16, 10:32 PM. Hi this is Russell Wallend (? sp.) at (206) 784-7117
reporting for Deborah Van Croft in Olympia. Deborah is a letter carrier and
this morning, her first stop, which is the Governor's Mansion in Olympia, on a
sign outside the Governor's Mansion sat a male WESTERN BLUEBIRD. That's it.
Good luck.

January 17, 5:47 PM. Hi, Scott Downes, 361-7073, reporting on the status
of some of the rarer gulls found around the Puget Sound Region currently. At
about 11 AM today, was able to find the adult winter SLATY-BACKED. It was
present if you take the next right after the Gog-li-hi-te Wetlands Turnoff on
Lincoln Avenue in Tacoma. Follow directions in previous posts. There is a
small alleyway to the left, on this alleyway are some metal rooftops. The
SLATY-BACKED was present here. At about 1 o'clock today, I was able to find
the American Lake LITTLE GULL in with BONAPARTE'S on American Lake in south
Tacoma and, finally, at about 3 o'clock this afternoon, I was able to locate
the first winter GLAUCOUS GULL in Tukwila. Follow previous on the BirdBox and
what is to be believed a GLAUCOUSxGLAUCOUS-WINGED hybrid. Thanks. Good luck
and good birding.

January 18, 7:36 PM. This report for January 18th was received by email
from Patrick and Ruth Sullivan whose phone number in Tacoma is (253) 564-7419.

MARBLED MURRELETS at several Jefferson County locations including a bird

January 18th, the first winter GAUCOUS GULL was seen on the golf course just
north of the Tukwila Maintenance Shop. The Shop is located at 14000 Interurban
Avenue South, This is in King County. It was seen at 10:30 AM. Catch you
later. Goodby.

January 19, 8:14 PM. Hi, this is Bill Tweit, (360) 754-7098. The
MOCKINGBIRD was still on the west side of Olympia today, Monday January 19 at
about 10 AM. It's at the corner of 4th and Plymouth on the west side of town.
