I can't supply any BC records but they were numerous for a short time
along the south side of the Strait of Juan de Fuca.
The records for ELTE for this year that I know of for the area are: 7-22,
23 just east of Cape Flattery [west end of the Strait] (David Fix of Arcata,
Calif.), 8-16, 1, Blyn (foot of Sequim Bay, George Gerdts) and they were
reported at that location from then to 9-18 (one, Gene Kridler) the largest
number was 4, 8-21 (Kridler). They were also reported at Oak Bay, [south of
Port Townsend just north of Hood Canal], first 8-19 (Norton & Kridler), last
9-5 (Janet Hardin) with a maximum of 3, 8-20 (Paul Conklin).
There were more in '92 & '93 (I am not sure of '93 and I need to have Gene
Kridler double check those dates as I had moved here by '93 and I don't
remember any reports [he is the source most of my records] Presuming that they
only occurred in '92: they occurred from 7-24, 6-8 (Dungeness Bay, Stan and
Dory Smith fide Kridler) to 9-18, 16 (Sequim Bay, Gene Kridler) with a maximum
of at least 60 Dungeness Bay (the Smiths fide GK), they also occurred at Oak
Bay with a maximum of 52 (Kridler and Jack and Pat Fletcher).
I think it is amazing that they would not cross the border but presume
that they were hugging the coast (I think there were records in Puget Sound).
I have all these records as I report from the North Olympic to Russell Rogers
and Bill Tweit and have been trying to get back records from Gene Kridler and
the Smiths and in the future from AMERICAN BIRDS.
