Dear all,

We went to Coulon Park in Renton this late morning to look for the
white-fronted geese. Alas, they didn't show themselves and, since it was
pouring, we did not walk the full length of the park (had cameras, etc).

What we did see were hundreds of grazing coots, lots of various gulls, two
pied-billed grebes, some common goldeneyes, mallards, scaup, buffleheads
and, the best of the ducks this day, a lone male CANVASBACK. I have always
thought them to be a most handsome and impressive duck.

While leaving the parking area near the boat launch and near the chain link
fence, a bird flushed from the ground to perch on the top of the fence -
turned out to be an immature female Cooper's hawk. It stayed there all the
while we watched from just a few feet away in the car. Neat bird (no photo).
