About 1980 I saw a female Redhead with a brood of chicks at the Kent ponds.
I was amazed but sure it was a female Redhead, though it's possible it had
adopted a brood of Lesser Scaups or something. Redheads used to be regular
in very small numbers on Union Bay in Seattle through the 1970s but very
scarce there since. There was a nice flock of Redheads on a small lake near
Sedro Wooley about 6-7 years ago. I don't know if that is still the case.
There were lots of Redheads at Stevenson in the Columbia Gorge when we all
went chasing after the Smew, whenever that was, about 10 years back. So the
extend down the Columbia part way but seem otherwise disinclined to take up
winter residence on this side.
