Subject: Canada goose behavior

Yesterday at Green Lake my attention was attracted by a row between some
Canada geese and a few white domesticated (?) geese. The Canada geese
outnumbered the others and apparently "won". Immediately afterwards,
three individual Canada geese dove underwater and swam underwater for
several yards before surfacing again. I'd never seen this before and
I would have guessed that Canada geese wouldn't have been *able* to
swim underwater. Is this behavior something that comes under the heading
of "rare but typical?" perhaps?
