What little information I have seen on kingfisher home ranges was obtained
something like this. Kingfisher "territories" were measured by marking perch
locations on a map. The observer (Wm Davis) followed a bird along its stream or
river until it circled back. By repeating the controlled disturbance on
subsequent visits, a home range emerged.

Female Belted Kingfishers have a rusty "belt," which the males lack.
Both sexes have a blue breast band.
