While conducting an annual Midwinter Bald Eagle Survey on January 17, 1998
(yes, still doing this survey--force of habit, I guess), David Miller, Russ
Koppendrayer and I found a male kingfisher at Kalama River Falls Fish
Hatchery, Cowlitz County, WA. It sounded off as we stepped out of the car,
and it flew to an alternate perch by the river. I have seen kingfishers
here other years but I'm sure I did not note the genders.
