Saturday, at Juanita Bay Park in Kirkland, Vivian Gross, Sarah Bowers and I
saw a male kingfisher being harassed by a crow. The crow flew after him so
fast we thought it was a hawk at first glance. As he neared the kingfisher,
and flew above him, he stretched out his claws as if to catch him! The
kingfisher made an evasive move, the crow backed off and flew back in the
direction from which he came. None of us had ever seen that kind of
behavior from these birds before.

Also present on a drippy cold afternoon:
Canvasbacks
Green winged teal
Great Blue Herons
Coots
Western grebes
Horned grebes
Double crested cormorants
Mallards
Pied-billed grebes
Ruddy ducks
Buffleheads
Female hooded merganser
Male common merganser
a few gull sp.
A huge mass of crows on their way to evening roost (we were up on a slight
hill, they were flying directly towards us from below and it looked like a
scene out ot "The Birds")
