I used to have a 1954 five-peso coin which showed the eagle and serpent in
conflict--well, actually it portrayed the snake getting the bejaysus pounded
out of it, no contest--and the bird on that was absolutely sure no
aquila-genus eagle but a long-legged, bare-tarsus'ed snake-specialist raptor
shaped pretty much like a caracara Polyborus sp. or Harris's Hawk Parabuteo
unicinctus.
