Diann and others,

It should be noted that "comecacao" in Spanish means more
or less "eat cacao" or "eats cacao". Cacao is the plant from
which chocolate is derived.

The crested caracara is indeed the Mexican national bird,
also called
common caracara and Mexican eagle. See Palmer for an
extended write up -
he says it is called *Carancho* in many South American
countries. Peterson
(FG to Mexican Birds), though, says its harsh 'cacao, etc'
call gave it its
Spanish name *Comecacao* - anyway, caracaras are
gorgeous birds. All
scavengers are, aren't they :-) !!
