thanks all for the responses (all but one privately, btw). Several
suggestions of starling. I haven't seen one in over a year of living here,
but have seen them a couple miles down the road, so that seems the most
likely culprit. Unless El Nin~o has brought us January pewees along with
the caracara, Xantus' hummer, et al. :-) Thanks again to all who took the
time to respond, and sorry about the misspelling, Irene. Sometimes my
fingers go faster than my brain..
