In Vancouver BC until the 1950's, Canada Goose Branta canadensis was almost
entirely migratory with very few staying over in the between-migrations
hiatus. The now-abundant residents are not of a local race but one which was
imported by humans. Apparently releases still happen, although with current
knowledge of the consequences, it's analagous to deliberately giving other
people a bad case of fleas.
